Have you driven past Firehouse Station #2 on the corner of Independence and Park Avenue lately? If you have been by during the day, you’ve probably seen the familiar trucks parked neatly in their bays, the American flag flying high and perhaps a few of our courageous heroes walking around. But what you may not have yet seen is how the fallen firefighters memorial area is now lit at night. For a spectacular lighting display honoring all the incredible monuments, we at Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Wilmington were honored to install the best outdoor lighting and designs for these heroes.
What will catch your eye upon first arriving at the monument is the bronze firefighter in the center of the paved area. The piece of steel being held up is an actual piece from the World Trade Center in New York City. Around the perimeter are stations of bronze firefighter helmets and boots along with the names of those fallen firefighters we honor.
When talking about a design plan for the outdoor lighting, we wanted to be sure we highlighted this amazing site so it would stand out at night without taking away from the actual structure. That is how we design and install all of our outdoor lighting plans. After all, outdoor lighting is about the effect, not the fixtures. We create outdoor lighting plans to make your outdoor spaces look even better at night.
In addition to making the firefighter the focal point, we added copper path lights around the perimeter of the wall and in between the fallen hero stations so they too were visible at night. Larger well lights were used to show Old Glory flying tall all night long. Lastly, we lit the Crepe Myrtles surrounding the memorial up from the ground so that the entire area looked as inspiring as those being honored there.
The next time you’re around Empie Park, stop by, have a seat and take in the site of this incredible memorial. And, while you’re there, thank those unsung heroes for their bravery and unrecognized contributions.
