On the corner of Market and Third, in the heart of Wilmington’s prominent historic district, behind the magnificent magnolias, sits the only colonial era historic house open to the public. The Burgwin-Wright House, which was built on the foundation of a former city jail, is operated as a museum and boasts the most gorgeous Georgian architecture around. But what really capture the attention of most people are the lush, terraced gardens outside; all seven distinct areas encompassing two-thirds of an acre.
The gardens are open all year-long and free of charge to walk through. But more than just the everyday visits, the Burgwin-Wright house also offers a beautiful setting for private events such as weddings, receptions, dinners and cocktail parties. Because of these events, the home recently applied for and received a grant to add outdoor lighting around the front of the house, the beautiful magnolias and within the gardens in the back. Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Wilmington was chosen to create a custom outdoor lighting design for the outdoor areas that we have just completed. We thought photos of the finished project would tell the story better than our words.
We started at the front of the house where we added architectural lighting to the facade and on the sides of the stairway for increased safety and appeal.
Most of our design was in the back of the home in the garden areas. Trees lining the gardens were lit as well as the pathways that guide guests around the area.
The ornamental features in the gardens are just as spectacular as the flowers and trees, especially with the landscape lighting shining on them.
The shapes, dimensions and textures all come alive at night with the outdoor lighting in place.
The beautiful staircases are enhanced with the dramatic lighting in the landscaping.
One of our favorite features is the dipping pool in the back garden. We installed a tree lighting technique called Moonlighting. The spotlight is secured up in the tree, shining down to create dramatic shadowing.
If you have the chance, take a walk past the Burgwin-Wright historic house at night to see how our outdoor lighting design has enhanced the home and garden areas. Or think about hosting your next special event in the gardens. You will surely be amazed at how beautiful it looks after the sun goes down.
If you have an outdoor space at your home that could benefit from outdoor lighting, give us a call. We’d be happy to design an outdoor lighting system for your home, deck, patio, pool area, pathways or any other area you’d like to enjoy more at night.
